💡Monthly Highlight

My net portfolio value decreased by about $13,000 in January 2026, despite having contributed $10,000 more. This decline was mainly driven by the recent software stocks selloff which affected many holdings in my portfolio such as Constellation Software (CSU, 10% weighting), Vitec Software (VIT-B, 4% weighting) and Salesforce (CRM, 3% weighting). I took advantage of this opportunity and acquired additional CSU shares, increasing my holdings by another 8 shares to a total of 42 shares across all my brokerage accounts.

While I believe the advancement of agentic AI will significantly affect the software industry, it remains unclear whether the net impact will be positive or negative. Working as a software engineer myself, it has become clear that integrating agentic AI into the programming workflow has substantially improved developer productivity, which should eventually translate into reduced future hiring and margin expansion for software companies.

On the other hand, AI has introduced a genuine headwind to seat-based pricing models used by existing software firms, as their products will have less end users when AI products significantly enhance customer productivity. To counter this, most software businesses in my portfolio, including Adobe, CRM, and VIT-B, have begun transitioning to usage-based pricing models for their new AI product offerings.
